Arnan Wiesel and Aaron Chew play romantic and 20th Century Four Hands works by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Ligeti, Stravinsky and J.S.Bach/Kurtag.
Experience a contemplative and exciting concert of four hands literature in an intimate setting: from Brahms' charming waltzes, romantic Schumann vingettes, to virtuosic Schubert variations; introspective arrangements of J.S.Bach Choral Preludes by Kurtag, eight rarely played short Stravinsky pieces, and rhythmically exhilarating short works by Ligeti.
Arnan Wiesel : A finalist in the Sydney Piano Competition, his career as solo and chamber musician has taken him to Australia, USA, Europe, Asia and New Zealand. Since taking up residence in Australia, he has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australia Ensemble, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Festival, in numerous ABC Live concerts, the Hunter and Huntington Festivals, Tyalgum Festival and in the Canberra Chamber Music Festival. He appeared in the NZ Piano Festival in Wellington.
Arnan is a former head of the ANU School of Music Keyboard area and was the Founding Artistic Director of the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition held in 2011. He was the inaugural President of the ACT Keyboard Association. Arnan currently has a teaching studio in Canberra.
Aaron Chew recently earned his PhD from the Australian National University (ANU) School of Music, focusing on Ferruccio Busoni’s pianism. His research explored Busoni’s interpretations of select piano recordings and their impact on performance. Prior to his PhD, Aaron completed a Master’s (Advanced) with a University Medal in 2016 and a Bachelor of Music in 2014, majoring in piano performance and psychology. His early training was under Madam Ya Ching and Marie Cull, with tertiary guidance from Arnan Wiesel, Wendy Lorenz and Larry Sitsky. Aaron runs a private piano studio, teaches at Canberra Grammar School, and enjoys callisthenics, chess, and promoting video game and anime music.
